In a session on mortgage fraud task forces, HUD assistant special agent in charge Lisa R. Gore told attendees that investigators are dealing with a significant up tick in zero payment default. In response, HUD, FBI and other agencies had formed a special mortgage fraud team, on which she serves. The purpose, she said, was to combine and leverage resources so that they can identify the most egregious cases and coordinate a multi-agency response. She encouraged lenders to support law enforcement efforts and to develop relationships with local task forces and working groups.
